Dear All,

My wife and I are going to get married soon. She is a US Citizen by birth and carries a US passport and I am a Canadian PR. Since from a young age she has been brought up in India and never visited except from birth to first couple of years in her life.

After Marriage she is planning to come to Canada with me to visit me and stay with me while we apply for the spousal sponsorship from inland.

I have few questions to clarify this process which I hope you guys would be be able to help me out with.

  1. We won't have a PR application filed when we return to Canada. Only document we would be carrying are both our Passports (mine Indian and hers USA) and my PR Card. Should she approach the CBSA counter at the airport alone or should we approach the officer together as a couple?
  2. What should we tell the officer? That my wife is just visiting Canada with me? and plan to return back or should we mention that we are planning to apply for Inland spousal sponsorship while she is in Canada? My actual question is should we reveal the intention of staying in Canada permanently? (also note that she doesnot have a permenant job in India and she is stil studying while self employed on a part time basis)
  3. Is there any issue with the dual intention in this case?
  4. What documents should I carry to support any claim?
I really appreciate any help you guys could give me.

Regards

1. she can approach the CBSA counter at the airport alone.....she should not carry lots of personal stuff.....just look like a temporary visitor.

2. wife is just visiting Canada.....don't unnecessarily reveal details....answer questions as they are asked.

3. dual intent is okay.

4. your travel passports.

Thank you for the reply Wakki. :) :) Regarding number two answer. If immigration officer at the counter ask why she is visiting Canada, does she reveal she is visiting her husband? Or should she say she is visiting some relatives? Does she need to carry documents to prove ties back to India so they know she will return at the end of her stay or it is not necessary?

Really appreciate your thoughts.

you are not married yet and she has not husband until after your marriage.......she should tell border officer she is visiting family.....not sure what documents to carry to show ties to home country.
