Hi all,

I am a U.S. citizen, currently living in Canada with my husband who is a Canadian citizen. We got married in July 2012 and ever since I have been living in Canada on a visitor status. My status is soon to expire so we have applied for my extension. My understanding is that until a decision is made on my application, which btw has a processing time of 92 days, I am considered to be on an "implied status."
Here's my question: My husband's firm is sending employees for a vacation to California. Am I able to travel to California and then re-enter Canada on my implied status? I have read several posts on this form which indicated that the implied status only exists as long as you are within Canada and once you step out then that status is void.

Also, Can I apply for my PR card while my extension application is being processed?

I will appreciate any help on this matter as the CIC website itself is very convoluted.

When you leave Canada, your implied status as a visitor expires. You have to meet the criteria as a visitor to be re-admitted.
PR card? Has your spouse sponsored you yet? You won't be eligible for a PR card until the sponsorship and the application is processed and you are officially "landed" as a Permanent Resident.
