Re: job scams - In general, in my experience, there are two types of people who will waste your time (and one of two will also try to waste your money):
1. The scammers and criminal syndicates who aim for your money (these will ask you to pay before arranging your employment).
2. 'Unknown' category, who don't ask for money but apparently aim for intelligence (need your legal name, place where you live, work, location etc.) for whatever reasons.
Once they get what they need both will disappear.
Be very careful of #1, as these will not only waste your time but will also take your money.
#2 is kind of annoying and will also most certainly waste your time.
Be very skeptical of anyone who, being total stranger, tries to make a personal arrangement to find you a job.
But don't get paralyzed or discouraged, nor discontinue your efforts, because of those types of encounters, just be careful and evaluate each lead rationally.
If someone asks you for upfront money (any amount, even if $5 "for registration") , BEWARE.
And if something sounds too good to be true (someone who is complete stranger suddenly offers to make a personal arrangement and help you meet someone in person to help you get a job), also be realistic and understand that they might be after something and it's not helping you get a job.
Keep a level head and continue your search. There are too few job openings while disproportionately high number of applicants for any position you can imagine. Be mindful that there are way too many desperate job seekers and visa seekers like yourself , which makes it a ripe ground for all kinds of swindlers and dishonest people to take advantage of.
I am also currently looking for a job in Canada and so far it seems to be a tough task.
Good luck.
