Two different passport numbers

I have my job contract and reference letter from my old company but my passport number mentioned is different as it was my old passport. Do i have to attach my old passport photocopy? and do i have to explain in a separate note the reason of attaching 2 different passport copies?

Yes , generally all over world , fresh / current Passport has reference number of old passport.
Its better you explain this in your cover letter , and attach all relevant copies
