Hi all! I am Canadian born; married husband and naturalized to US; he is US citizen. Now we want to move back to Canada with me as his sponsor. Thing is, he is the one who works. I am stay at home with our kids. The question I've been looking to answer is: how soon after we would apply for his Permanent Residence could he work? say... if we were already there? If we moved back up there permanently, we couldn't last long without him working. Thanks!

He would be allowed to work immediately after receiving permanent residence. The application may take a long time - for most people between 6 and 12 months in all. In your case, it's highly unlikely they would question the genuineness of your relationship because you have kids, so that's likely to make it on the shorter side.

You can remain in the US in the meantime. The only thing different in that case is you'll need to prove that you both really intend to move to Canada. I don't understand why they make a point of that, because otherwise, why bother applying? In any case, proving that is part of the application.

There's an option to apply "inland" once you've already both moved to Canada, but he wouldn't get a work permit for several months, so that doesn't look like a good idea for you.

Once a permanent resident, he would need to get a social insurance number. That might take a week or two, but as long as you can prove to an employer that you've applied for one and are a permanent resident, that's usually not a problem the first few days.
