Dear All,

I have a valid Temporary resident visa (TRV) for another 2 years. Now Im applying for graduate studies in Canada. Do I need to apply for student visa? If yes what happens to the TRV? And will it be easier to get the student visa now that I have TRV still valid? Please advise.

Thank you.

If the program you are taking is more than six months in duration - yes, you'll certainly need a study permit to legally study in Canada. Nothing happens to your TRV.

It may or it may not be easier to obtain a study permit. To be approved, you'll need to show you have strong ties to your home country and have no plans on remaining in Canada long term. If you have been spending a lot of time in Canada - this could be a problem. If you have just taken one or a few reasonable trips to Canada - then this should help your study permit application.

you need to apply from you home country if you are not in Canada, If you are in Canada you have to submit application at Canadian VO in the US
