Hi, I'm Vinayak from Pune India. I'm 27 years old , single and employed for the last 6 years in Pune.

I wanted to visit my school friend in Toronto. He and and his family immigrated to Canada in 2004 and have been there since. Pre-2004 they were our neighbours and my friend and i studied in the same school for 10 years and also went to the same pre school.

I applied for a visitor visa on May 18 through a travel agent in Pune and was told it would take about 12 business days to process. On the 6 th business day day my passport was returned with a letter of Visa being rejected for :

1 ) No past travel outside India
2 ) Purpose of Visit
3 ) Lack of Funds
4 ) Family ties in India and Canada
5 ) Insufficient documentation to show a healthy financial status of my host in Canada

I also understand that my age and nationality has got something to do with this ( A no of fraud cases of people not returning )

Now i want to re-apply and ensure a 100 % chance of a visa being issued.

I have decided to for the above points :

1 ) No past travel outside India

Travel for 5-6 days to Singapore or Dubai just to get a visa stamped on my passport. Will this help ?

2 ) Purpose of Visit

I really dont know what other purpose to show. Cant one just visit canada to spend time with a relative/friend.

3 ) Lack of Funds

I showed 102,000 INR in my savings account.
800,000 INR in my PPF a/c
200,000 Fixed deposit receipts
Last 4 months pay slips
IT returns for 2013 2014
Bank statement from 1/1/2015
Employment letter
Leave sanction letter clearly stating my date of re-joining work ( on Company's letter head stamped and signed )

All this for a 2 week stay.

4 ) Family ties in India and Canada

India - Have my Parents and younger brother. Just mentioned their name age and how their related to me in The Family Information form.

Canada - Submitted a LOI from my host , their PR card and my friends fathers employment letter

5 ) Insufficient documentation to show a healthy financial status of my host in Canada

Only my friends fathers employment letter was submiited.

Apart from this the covering letter clearly stated that i would be bearing all expenses for my visit , only accommodation would be provided by the host.

Experts/Friends

Please advise how I can ensure my visa is issued the 2nd time around.
I have put a few solutions myself ( need an opinion on it ) and any other advise on the other rejection reasons.

I really WANT to go.

Please advise.

Hi Vinayak,

I also understand that my age and nationality has got something to do with this ( A no of fraud cases of people not returning )
Canada does not discriminate on age or nationality while issuing visas.

In most cases of TRV refusals, applicants do not present their documentation properly or else do not meet the requirements for being issued visas.

1 ) No past travel outside India

Travel for 5-6 days to Singapore or Dubai just to get a visa stamped on my passport. Will this help ?
It is easy to get visas for Singapore and Dubai.... visas for US, UK, Schengen countries, etc are normally considered as *Travel History*.

Having stated this, it is not necessary for someone to have traveled abroad to be granted a TRV..... previous travel history only helps to prove that an applicant will return to his/her home country.

2 ) Purpose of Visit

I really dont know what other purpose to show. Cant one just visit canada to spend time with a relative/friend.
Do draw up a day-by-day Itinerary/Purpose of Visit of places you'd like to visit, things you'd like to do, etc with expense estimates.... and prove you have the finances for this itinerary

3 ) Lack of Funds

I showed 102,000 INR in my savings account.
800,000 INR in my PPF a/c
200,000 Fixed deposit receipts
Last 4 months pay slips

Bank statement from 1/1/2015
Employment letter
Leave sanction letter clearly stating my date of re-joining work ( on Company's letter head stamped and signed )
INR 102,000 = CAD 2000 approx which is very low to apply for a TRV..... ideally, you must show about CAD 1000 per week + airfare + extra finances

PPF and Fixed Deposits do not count as cash in the bank for a visit as these are locked-in

You must submit the last 6 months bank statements

You may want to submit your Appointment Letter which details your role and responsibilities in the company

5 ) Insufficient documentation to show a healthy financial status of my host in Canada

Only my friends fathers employment letter was submiited.
If your friend's dad is the Host then he must give you the Invitation Letter with copy of his PR card + copy of passport + bank statement + NOA/T4

I really WANT to go.
More than really wanting to go..... to be granted a TRV, you must prove why you really want to return :)

You must prove your ties to India (for example, property/family in India/finances and financial investments/employment, etc)

Cheers :)

Thanks Bryanna,

I see your replies and advise to almost every query. That's really nice of you.

I will take your suggestion and advise utmost seriously.

Since they have given 5 reasons for rejection i want to address all 5 before my re-application.

I have a relative in London. May be il visit him this year. ( Singapore/Dubai wont help like you said ). On this i really have to think as you said its not neccesary but i dont want them to reject it again giving this reason ).

I will draw up a detailed itenary.

Transfer some fixed funds into my savings a/c to show approx 4000 cad.

I will ask my host to submit all these documents ( he did give me his emp letter/ pr card / loi ) ( Il also need his passport copy, t4/NOA , bank statement ).

Could you throw more light on on how to show stronger family tiers in India. I live with my Parents , younger brother and grand mother.
Dont have a fixed propery like a house or land in my name. Can show more liquid cash.

And should i wait for a few months before my re-application. Also before i do that i will let you lnow what supporting documents i have with me then.

Thank You again. And please advise on my query for Family Ties in India.

Although it is not necessary to have traveled abroad before you apply for a Canada visit visa, you may visit the UK if you wish.

The paperwork for the UK General Visit Visa is along similar lines as a Canada TRV..... ie purpose of visit + strong ties to the home country + financial situation along with supporting documents provided by your relative.

Also when you apply for any visa henceforth, don't forget to mention you had a TRV refusal.

Transfer some fixed funds into my savings a/c to show approx 4000 cad.
You may want to save more money before you apply.... instead of taking loans against your FDs or prematurely closing Fixed Deposits.

Do explain the source of funds for any recent large deposits in your bank account (even for your UK visa).

It's not only about your Family Ties in India..... you must present overall strong ties through your employment/family/finances/enrollment in any academic program or training for career enhancement, if any/social or volunteer work, etc

You can reapply for a TRV anytime ie when you address the reasons for refusal

All the best :)
