Hi everyone - My wife's cousin from the Philippines is currently living in Taiwan. She would like to visit us in Canada to see whether she might like to pursue a PR application.

I have a couple of questions: (1) Could she submit the TRV application from Taiwan, or would she have to return to the Philippines? (2) She doesn't have a lot of personal savings to show; is our assurance of place to stay and covering of expenses while in Canada sufficient for CAN Immigration? Any other "heads up's" anyone can pass along would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello! What is her status in Taiwan? She can definitely try to submit an application from there as long as she can demonstrate strong ties from there. Like her job. She needs to show that she will still go back to Taiwan after the visit.
My cousin from Qatar applied her visa from Qatar and was granted a multiple visa. She showed Employment certificate and I think bank account as well.

When you write the invitation letter, just be very clear that her stay in Canada will not exceed 6 months.

Thanks for the response! What is a multiple visa?

Multiple-entry visa.

She can apply online if it's more convenient.

Read around the forums for similar cases. As charmaine frances said, she has to show her ties to Taiwan/outside Canada. Any proof you will submit on her behalf is secondary to her own assets or ties.

Hi

Sorry for the late reply here. If I understand correctly, to be approved she would have to show (a) some personal savings (how much for a 6-month stay?); and (b) an intention to return to Taiwan (or the Philippines) after her stay?

She can only get a month Leave of Absence from her current job, so she wouldn't be able to get proof of guaranteed employment on her return there. As mentioned in the original post, she has no significant savings. We would pay for her flight & for expenses while here (in exchange for helping take care of our 9 year old son). And to be completely honest, our goal is to mutually determine if there's a fit for her to potentially return via PR / other process to be a live-in nanny for a few years. Of course CANADA Immigration probably prefers not to have it put like that?

Thanks again!
