Hi folks, recently moved to ON from the US and am having trouble transferring my US license here. For context, I had DL in three US states (Connecticut, New Jersey, and Illinois). I went to DriveTest with the driver history abstracts from them all, and the lady who serviced me was quite rude and impatient - she kept interrupting me when I tried to explain in response to her unwillingness to accept my documents and eventually refused to issue one for me.
No issues with Connecticut.
New Jersey: She said my abstract was incomplete and was missing a "top portion" without giving further clarifications. Upon researching I found this post https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i...hange-with-a-nj-drivers-license.147837/page-2 and learned that I also needed to submit another form to get another doc, so easy fix.
Illinois: I've had 4 DLs in the state. the 1st was a transfer from out-of-state, the 2nd and 3rd were renewals (I was an expat so had to do this whenever I renewed my visa status), and the 4th was a replacement of the 3rd because I lost it. The format of the IL driver's abstract was very confusing because it lists an "expiration date" for each issuance, but that only refers to the expiration of the temporary paper license before the plastic card arrives which has a different and much later expiration date. The lady insisted that the expiration dates were when my actual DL expired (which makes no sense, as then each of my licenses would only be valid for 2 months) and therefore I had gaps in my DL history and she couldn't accept it for the transfer. I spoke with the state office and they said this is the only format of their driver's abstract and they can't provide other documents to clarify the expiration dates.
So...people who moved from Illinois, did any of you run into this issue and how did you solve it? Should I try a different staff, a different DriveTest location (any recommendations?), or ServiceOntario at Bay/College instead?
In addition, can I just use my Illinois DL to get the ON G license first and add driving histories from other states later once I receive the correct docs, or I have to present the entire history at once for the transfer? Thanks in advance!
Update: ServiceOntario did it for me
