Hi - my parents landed in Toronto a week ago (Apr 29) and need to travel to Chicago for a family committement in June, returning sometime in mid June. There is a chance, they might not recieve the PR card until end of June. I undertand the the Proof of Landing (shows not Valid for Travel) is good to allow entry into Canada if entering by land in a private car. I intend to pick them up at Buffalo airport and drive them back into Toronto.

I looked at the link below to confirm - however did not specifically list out the document. Is there any specific place I can confirm if the Proof of Landing is sufficient along with Passport, or is there any additional documents required ?? (Multiple threads seem to be in agreement neverthless.)

If they are re-entering the country via a land border using a private vehicle - all they require is their landing document / COPR.

Is it ok to leave canada by air with our PR card and return by private car?
Will that cause any problems in getting the PR..? Also do we need to update our travel to the cic prior or post?

We are waiting to receive our PR and currently in canada .. it will take another month to get the PR card

As per Scylla without a PR card all you need is your landing document/ COPR to enter via US land border in a private vehicle. You do not need a PR card to leave a Canada only need one to fly back into Canada or a PRTD.

CIC have no interest at all in your travel plans until comes to PR card renewal time or in future for a citizenship application when you need to show you have met the residency requirement.

As a PR you can come and go as you please without telling anyone as long as you have the correct travel documentation of course. If you have a PR card sure you can leave by air and return through the land border by any means not just a private vehicle.

Also your parents may be asked to prove their travel history and they will be asked to list the times they have been out of Canada so I suggest you start keeping records. Much easier than having to go back and find the information.

thank you for the info...may I ask if you have any idea how long is the processing time for the PRTD?thank u

There is no standard processing time. Some VACs can take days, others take weeks/months to process.

You would need to see if people who have recently applied for PR TD through Manila, can give you their experiences.

To try and speed up the process you can drop off the app and pick up PR TD & passport in person instead of mailing. Also you can include copies of your flight tickets back to Canada and request urgent processing, and hope the visa officer that gets your file tries to accommodate you.
