Hi everyone.

So my working holiday visa is expiring May 11th. I have put through an application to extend my stay as a visitor here which is still processing. So I will be on implied status after May 11th. I also have flights booked home for June 20th back to Ireland. I only have the intention of spending these last weeks in Canada as a tourist without working. However I have a trip planned into the states on May 19th for two days. I'm wondering if this will effect my ability to reenter Canada even as a visitor?

I have records of my non refundable flight booked home, including a letter from my recent employer here stating I have ceased working with the company (and that they have no intention of continuing employing me after the date of my working holiday visa stated on the letter).

This is all to help my case in regards to only staying in Canada as a visitor with no purpose of working and with the intention of leaving June 20th.

Will this be sufficient to re enter Canada from the states as a tourist/visitor or is it ill advised to leave Canada at all even with the intention of returning as tourist/visitor?

Thank you for your time!

You are Irish, so I believe you are visa-exempt; you don't need a visa to enter Canada, but you do need an eTA for commercial travel.

Be aware that leaving Canada technically invalidates your application for visitor extension - but it will probably still process. It'll just be a weird situation where your application for extension is no longer valid (since you left Canada) but you may get it. You can't extend something that ended, but bureaucratic processes take a while to complete.

The only real challenge you may have is the border officer questioning your genuine visitor status when you attempt to re-enter. Bring all your documentation with you. You may get secondary inspection or questions. But you shouldn't, technically.
