Travelling after applying for PR on Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds

Hi All,

A friend of mine has applied for PR on Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds. He wants to know if he can apply for a TRV simultaneously so that he can travel back home.
He applied for PR in August. What is the current ETA for PR approval on this basis?

That's not advised.

He can apply for the TRV but I expect the chances of refusal would be high since the H&C application demonstrates an intent to remain in Canada long term.

It's also not advised to leave Canada during an H&C application. That would significantly weaken the argument for H&C.

Processing times are varied right now. I would say anywhere from over a year to over two years.

It is possible to get it earlier. A friend of his applied on the same grounds. She was separated from her husband but not yet divorced and she applied for PR on H&C and she got it in 6 months. Is that possible?

Yep, earlier is also possible. Not common. But happens sometimes.
