Quick question. Does anyone know if you have to apply for some sort of a travel permit to travel outside of Canada while my spousal sponsorship application is being processed? I want to go back to the US to visit family but not sure if this will interfere with my application and ability to come back across the border to Canada.

Hi,

It is recommended to stay in Canada until you become permanent resident. I keep seeing so many people in the forums saying they bought tickets to see their family or they're planning a trip to another country. However, there is no guarantee the immigration officers will let you come back to Canada once you are at the borders and this is the reason they are stating it on the government website and therefore we should all be aware of it. I totally understand the situation, I myself haven't seen my parents since spring and I miss them way too much, but I'd rather not risk my application and future and wait a few more months. After all, people can come and visit us in Canada too, once in a while if possible. And then once the PR is eventually approved we can travel to see our families and plan trips as much as we can and not worry anymore (obviously as long as we maintain our PR status) :)

You don't need any permit to leave Canada.

Did you apply inland or outland? If you applied inland and you are refused entry to Canada, your inland app is abandoned
