Hello. I know I am probably the millionth person asking this: can I travel to my HOME country of USA, VISA-EXEMPT COUNTRY for 10 days?

The CIC website says you can leave if you meet admissibility rules to come back in:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=248&top=28

I have a valid passport.
I dont need a work or study permit.
I have a valid visitor visa.

My sponsor will also be making the trip with me. I understand for some applicants from visa-required countries it may be different.

But as an American going back to the states for 10 days, what is the likelihood of getting questioned? I also am not sure when I'm getting my work permit as I submitted it after my PR app was received.

I sound like a broken record here but here I go.

No one can tell you what the outcome of this is going to be. Short trips like this are usually fine, members do it often enough with no complications. The risk and unknown factor is if you are denied entry by CBSA. No one here can tell you the likelihood of that happening since it's up to the officers. Understand and weight the risks and then make the decisions - it's a personal choice.

This is all assuming you did apply for the in Canada Class and not outland while inside Canada.

I know and I am sorry for asking. I try to do search queries and cant find something recent. Members do it often with no complications but am curious for the members, if any, that had complications.

I've said this a hundred times and I can't stress it enough - you can't compare this situation to anyone else's since it truly is a case by case basis. I wouldn't waste your time searching for examples, like I said weigh the risks and make your decision. This isn't an uncommon situation and most applicants do not encounter any issues.

Okay thank you for your comments and opinion! Have a nice day.

DONt worry. I haven’t seen a single person on this forum yet who faced any issues. I have tried to search everywhere

Anyone who disagrees please come up with any link/post.

Thanks

Thank you for the comment. I am not trying to disprove anyone. I am wondering if they ask for documents or paperwork etc if they do decide to stop someone. Like kcward said, it is case by case. I totally agree with that, I would like to prepare myself as much as I could.

They didn’t ask my husband any questions. He’s from visa exempt nation.

Going to echo what kcward7 stated, which is that while no one here can assure you that all will be well when returning to Canada, short-trips are usually fine (provided the person has all the right documents needed for entry).

I recently left Canada for about a week for a family emergency. Although I was confident I would be let in again, I made sure to bring my passport (duh!), OWP, receipt of my PR application, receipt of roundtrip flight itinerary, etc. When I returned I told the CBSA officer that I had already applied for PR-inland, my partner and I lived in Canada, and that I had an OWP. He asked if I had the OWP on me, so I gave it to him, he looked at it and let me through. Obviously the OWP alone doesn't grant someone entry since it's not a travel document, but it did clearly help. No hassle at all.

I hate to beat the dead horse but:

Both an OWP and valid visitor record are "not authorizing reentry". So why does the OWP help the process at the POE?

As an American citizen with valid passport and temporary resident permit, travel to the U.S and back will actually not need to reissue a visitor record, according to the CIC website

If you re-read my post, I stated OWP does not grant re-entry. Indeed, it even says so on the OWP itself.

The OWP makes it easier because -- provided one also has valid travel documentation pertinent to one's specific case -- the CBSA officer will likely see the OWP as official proof that the person seeking entry is already in the system and going through all the appropriate steps. In my case, I gave him my US passport and then my OWP. He looked at the latter and almost immediately let me through. The OWP helped. (Yes, the OWP can help non-US citizens too, so long as they have whatever other travel documentation their cases require, as I've stated before. I know because others in this forum and in my immigration support group have done similar and can attest to this.)

Finally, to beat a dead horse, even though I've said the OWP+valid entry documentation should grant one entry into Canada, there is still a small risk. The CBSA officer wields an incredible amount of power and discretion and can still deny entry.
