Good day everyone,

Me and my husband are refugee claimants, our son was born in Canada, he have birth certificate. We decided withdraw our claim and go back to homeland.
What travel documents do we need for our baby? Where we can apply for it ?

I will be grateful for advice
Have a good day!

He needs a passport. As a Canadian citizen, he is eligible for a Canadian passport but if he is eligible for your home country citizenship as well, you can talk to your embassy about registering him and getting him a passport from your homeland.

Leon, thank you for your answer
Our country does not allow dual citizenship, so he don't need Canadian passport, just some document for travel.

Can't your child stay in your country, while keeping his Canadian citizenship? If so, get a Canadian passport for him.

Being born in Canada, he has Canadian citizenship whether you like it or not. If your country does not allow dual, then he may not be eligible for your home country citizenship. Some countries do however make exceptions for children born with dual. Some might make him choose once he is an adult. You can not renounce his Canadian citizenship even if you'd want to. He would have to be 18 and choose to do that himself.

In order to get these questions answered, you should talk to your home country embassy about if he is eligible for your home country citizenship and if you can get him your home country passport. He is however as a Canadian citizen eligible for a Canadian passport if you want to apply for one.
