Translation of documents

My husband and i are going through the checklist for the spousal sponsorship. We've come across part B "supporting documents for sponsored persons". It asks for documents such as copies of passports and copies of national identity cards. He is currently in Costa Rica so his passport and identity card are both in spanish. My passport is also in spanish. Do they have to be legally translated or can they just be the copies with everything in spanish?

Your passport is not required.

He must have all of his official documents formally translated.

So even though its just a printed copy of his passport that does need to be translated and certified? Or just translated? I know our marriage certificate and his birth certificate have to be forsure. Thank you!

I’m not sure about Costa Rica, but my husband is Nicaraguan and the passport has the cooresponding English for its Spanish on it so we didn’t get it translated. But you will need to get the copy of the passport certified as a “certified copy” by a lawyer.

Did you also have to provide a copy of your passport? in the guide it says the principal applicant and all family members need to provide such copies like the passport. But i do already live in canada and my passport is in english and spanish
