Tourist visa while PR is being processed

My wife has just applied for her Permanent Residency. We are currently living outside of Canada. We assume it will take several months for the approval. In that time we would like to enter Canada and live there. She will be entering on a tourist visa. Will entering Canada and staying on a tourist visa create problems, or interfere, with her PR application?

It may take longer, in which case she may need to extend her visa. But that's six months away.
