Hi Everyone,

I have applied for my Express entry program recently and waiting for invitation. I am expecting another 7-8 months for whole process to take place. Meanwhile , i have some company projects which are based in Canada and my company wants me to go there for a while and complete them. I told them that I have applied for my PR and i am not sure whether i can apply for tourist visa or not.
Please, let me know can i go ahead and apply for tourist visa and does it affect my chances of getting invite.
I have heard people saying that a person shouldn't try to enter Canada when one has applied for PR. How true is that and also, just in case once i get my PR then can i visit Canada as tourist.
Please, let me know as I am really looking forward to hear back from your guys.

Thanks.

You can do it. My husband was in the same situation - during our PR process needed to go to Canada for work. He applied for a tourist visa, and had a supporting letter from his office stating all the details of his trip, and he ended up getting a tourist visa for 10 years.

Oh man. I may have to apply for a TRV too for a fixed date family reunion as I don't have my PPR until now, but it's not as strong a reason as work in Canada. :(

Yeah family reunion might be a bit more difficult as in case of a business visa, the office sort of makes a request on your behalf and vouches you'd be back. I think it also helped that my husband has several valid visas at the time (EU, Australia...) and he never overstayed anywhere before.
I think you just need to make a good case for yourself. Present all possible documents (employment letter, enough funds, previous visas...), and do not try to hide the fact that you applied for PR. In my husband's application we were very honest about everything.

What if my company doesn't provide a legitimate letter or supporting documentation? If i show that i'm travelling on leisure purposes, does this still hold true?

That might be a bit more difficult. If they are sending you, then why wouldn't they provide a letter for you?

There is some hidden story which I can't bring it up here, but anyways I got perfect reply I was looking for. Thanks Guys for all your help.

+ 1, thanks. I may have to try soon if I don't get PPR within the month. I'll never know until I try. I know it's a long shot in my case.

Can one work on a tourist visa? Isn't SIN required to work legally in Canada? SIN is given only if you have work permit.

Yeah, no harm in trying (only losing $100 :)). But I am of the opinion that if you are honest and present yourself in an honest way, there is no reason to get refused. We supplied so many documents that they didn't even ask for, like tax certificates and all kinds of stuff, to prove ties to the home country and also that we wouldn't be a burden in Canada.

We're talking about tourist visa, business stream here, not work permit.

Sometimes your company needs to send you to Canada for a conference, or a meeting, or something of the sort, and this is the visa you would apply for. You don't need SIN or work permit. You are only coming as a visitor for several days.

Yeah, he just renewed it shortly before applying. Visa is valid till the expiration of the passport.

I may have to apply for one for exams seeing I haven't received PPR yet. :( :(

Same here. I just got my GCMS notes and as of early April, my eligibility is still "not started". :(
