once you are aproved and get your passport back, do they give you a date for landing? or can we go for a short trip to las vegas or so and come back and land at the calgary airport? and what do you need for that?

the PR visa will expire one year from the date the medical was done, so you'll need to land before that date... as for taking a side trip to vegas, well, if the timeline works for you, as long as the immigrating party is visa exempt or holds a valid US visa, it shouldn't be an issue unless you loose your return trip home on the craps table :)

Actually, it expires one year from the date of your medical, or the expiry date of your passport - whichever is first.

Hubby's passport was expiring in March (we anticipate PR status by February), so he applied for a new one so that he will have until July 7th, 2011 to move if need be (which is one year to the date his medical was done).

My Husband has a dutch passport, wich is good untill 2016. nut I mean when they stamp his passport and gets it back what do we do then and how much time for that? and if his med expire before he get his passport back does he realy have to get a new one done

His medical has to be valid (no more than i year old) in order for him to land. If his passport is good until 2016, then you have the date of the medical to land before.

From you other thread I understand you applied inland through cic vegreville? If you did usually you do not send off your passport you will get a letter usually 1 - 3 months after decision made from the cic nearest to you (sometimes it's really fast sometimes slow depends on the office and the time of year) you will become a PR at this interview. They will stamp your hubbys passport also at this time and he will obtain his COPR. Generally all family class applicants go through the in Canada landing process and no longer border cross. Not sure how it works for people in rural areas far away from a cic, but this is the procedure now. But if you do plan on going to Vegas understand that you can potentially have problems boarding an inbound flight to Canada without holding the PR card. The COPR isn't accepted by commercial carriers proof of status so flying back 'could' be problematic until you recieve the pr card
