I'm just trying to get a general idea of timelines.

If I understand correctly, from the point I get a job, I then do a medical exam that is sent to Ottawa, before I can go to the border for my NAFTA work permit.

How long does it take for that medical exam to be approved, from the point I leave the doctor and wait, until the moment I can go apply for the work permit?

Thanks!

I should also double check. Do I definitely need a medical for a NAFTA graphic design work permit? I'm getting conflicting answers

No, you do not need a medical examination for a NAFTA graphic design work permit. The category of positions requiring a medical examination are rather narrow, dealing with public health (nurse, doctor, etc.) to working with children. This is spelled out in FW 1 "Temporary Foreign Workers" available on the CIC website.

I'm quite familiar with the NAFTA category requirements (and have status in Canada under a NAFTA work permit at the present time) and have assisted others in obtaining NAFTA work permits and none have required medical examinations.

Good luck!
