Timeline for getting a SIN

I received my COPR this year and I recently got a job offer. My employer has asked me to provide SIN a week before the start date. Can you get a SIN on the spot as soon as you land and your COPR is signed? Also, is there a way to apply for it online prior to landing or is a proof of landing needed for a SIN to be issued?

You can only apply for it upon/after landing.

-You can get on arrival at Pearson airport, IF the service canada office is working (I don't know the office hours, but not late at night).

-Any service Canada location, but check on whether appt or otherwise needed, covid rules, etc. They will issue on the spot.

-You can order it online, they will send the SIN by mail. I think it takes only about a couple weeks, perhaps three. Actually quite reliable but may not work if you plan to land shortly before your start date.
