We have been waiting for our Family Sponsed approval in Philippines for over a year. The Visa Office comes with a question every 3-4 months and then disappears. What is the real time of waiting for a family visa?

Is this a spousal application? When was the sonsor approved?

Yes, it is a family sponsored application and sponsor was approved by CIC in Canada early September 2009. After 3 requests for additional information over a year, and 3-4 month silence in between (the last blank silence from early June to mid September), we were requested a second medical in September 2010 for the first medical in August 2009 expired after one year. Now just like before a black hole, nothing since.

The CAIPS document highlights aged difference, but I thought age discrimination is illegal in Canada.

Any suggestion, comment?

It's good you recieved the Caips notes. I find it a little strange that you haven't at least been called for an interview if they are doubting the genuiness of your relationship (ie. age difference). Everytime a new document is sent they have a bring forward date when they review you application again. The processing time for Manila is now stating 9 months, which they process 80% of applications. The next thing you can do is contact your local MP here in Canada to see what addtional information they can get for you.

Thank you kelKel.

I requested an interview, but Manila Visa Office does not even acknowledge receipt of my registered letters. My local MP is just hopeless, when I asked for help 6 months ago they told me everything is OK and on track. Obviously it is not.

What about just showing at the door at the Manila Visa Office and requesting an appointment? Or writing to the Canadian Ambassador in Manila requesting help for the Visa Office does not respond at all.

We had completed the last request for the second medical two months ago and it's like throwing a rock in water - nothing! There must be a way to receive proper treatment of our application - is there?

Did the CAIPS show anything about security checks? That could be what they are waiting for. Also, check with your DMP to find out when they actually sent the medical to the Regional Medical Officer. You'd be surprised at what some applicants found out about delays in medicals being done but not sent until much later. Tracking that might answer some questions about the delay.

They requested additional information to avoid the interview. And since another medical request came, that's a good thing. They don't ask you to spend money unless they are ready to move to the next step of visa issuance. So whatever you sent them has satisfied their questions about genuineness of your relationship.

Define "proper treatment". In CICs view, it's whatever it takes to satisfy the requirements of the Act and Regulations. Showing up at the embassy won't help you at all because they won't let you in or give you an appointment. It's frustrating but you are almost done and need to be patient for a little longer. The MP can only make inquiries and cannot get detailed information about your file that you can't get. However, the visa office MUST respond to the MP within a short time frame so it's not a bad idea to have them inquire again given your new medical. You can also try a case specific inquiry but they will take 28 days minimum to respond to that.

I know you are frustrated but you are almost done. Trying the MP again to find out what is the hold up is probably your best bet at getting any information.

There are a couple of visa posts that I know have filled their quotas for visas being issued in 2010. I do not know if the quotas have been met in Manila but it's possible.

Hey rjessome I have a similar situation that iam in. I filed for my wifes application back in nov 2009 and now its been 1year exact. My wife recenlty did her remedical and updated imm forms in the end of aug 2010 and so its been 3months now and all i got a reply when i inquired was file is in process and in queue for review. I also found out that background checks are done and now just waiting patiently. I already contacted my mp all she said was to just wait so hopeless they are. Anyway any suggestions or advice for me because according to the new timeline for pakistan is 16 months fo 80% cases but iam sponsoring my wife from afghanistan and have to go through their visa office. Please any advice would really help and give me a ease of mind. thanks

I'm sorry but I don't have any further advice to offer other than be patient. That's not much help but it looks like everything is proceeding without issue.

I expect a huge whack of visas to be issued in January. It seems many posts have met their quotas for 2010.

Thanks rjessome for your reply and advice I appreciate it. I hope thats not the case that means waiting for another 2months anyway thanks again. Good luck to us all
