Dear All,

I am going to land in toronto on 22 February 2010 from UK and will stay in Canada for one week. Then I will finally move to Canada in september 2010. I am going to open a bank account in HSBC Canada from UK and its in process. As I am going to stay for only one week what other things ( Applying for sin, Health card etc.) I should do during my one week stay in Canada?

Thanks and B Regards,

momotarahman

as you already mentioned yourself, you will need to apply for SIN and health card. your SIN card will come in mail 10 days after application, your OHIP card will arrive in mail 2.5 months depending on landing date, and you'll receive your PR card within 6 weeks by mail after date of landing.

Hi, I have the same question...

Should I apply for health card even if I am staying for only one week?

I haven't received my PR visa yet but I'm in the final stages of the process. If everything goes well, I'll do my landing this summer, but I may have to come back to Japan for work.

If I stay in Canada only 1 or 2 weeks, should I apply for the health card?

To momotarahman

Congratulations! Hope all goes smoothly in your landing.

I have a question for you... In your post you mentioned HSBC. Are you talking about the Premiere Service? How long did they say it would take to open the account?

Wish you all the best!

I walked into HSBC in London Ontario about a year ago, they opened the account right away.
All they wanted was a copy of the passport (main page) and an address.

momotarahman and Baloo,

Thank you for your replies!

Now we need to hear about the health card... any advice is much appreciated.

Regards!

You could always google the branch office in Canada, telephone them and ask them what they can do for you.
