If have applied for a PR Card that is delayed then decide to take the risk of leaving Canada and applying for a PRTD but:

1. you are not visitor visa exempt to facilitate air travel back where you will deal with CBSA on Canadian soil

2. do not have a US Visa to facilitate a land border crossing (subject to CBP granting you admission into the US without any issues)

then you leave yourself at the mercy of the visa post who may rightly or wrongly deny the application especially if your days are borderline (IMHO less than 830 days) and your evidence of 'In Canada days' residence is not conclusive or can be easily rebutted as unreliable and/or not trustworthy.

Remember you start losing days once you leave Canada and your buffer runs out until the PRTD application date in which you better not miss something as the application will be returned as incomplete. Is it really worth the risk?

Isn't it 730 days?

The law says 730 days hence my IMHO phrase where I think a 100 day buffer works but ultimately its not just the 730 days its also proving it. An applicant with 730 days but full time work is more likely to get the PRTD than an applicant with 800+ days but was say unemployed if the visa post go with the 'I need proof' tactic to deal with the application.

What I see repeatedly on this forum is the PR applicant who plays roulette with the RO because they have a lifestyle choice usually a job they don't want to give up (which is their right) especially if they are supporting their family/ all they can get in Canada is survival jobs etc...gets to 730 days applies for urgent processing, gets RQd/delayed, can't wait to return back to their job etc and leaves not long after day 730 thinking I'll apply for a TD which is valid for say 4 months. They ignore the timeline between leaving Canada and applying for the TD or the admin/ bureaucratic delays in their home/ 3rd country including the increasing use of outsourced visa application centers by CIC and or delays in mailing etc that is not to the same standard as Canada's (which for Canada Post for example isn't exactly a shining example).

They also disregard or are not aware of the fact that CIC increasingly want to see evidence of declared dates of residence when applying for a PRTD...the days of a PRTD application supported with a couple of utility bills and little evidence of 'solid' proof read employment are on the wane. Likewise they think that somehow the PRC and PRTD applications are either not connected or are connected...without seeing the FOSS/GCMS noted as to the ongoing PRC process and the info here not being redacted its easy for a PR to make the wrong call and get trapped outside Canada.

This needs to be "sticky-ed" to the top of this forum!

Absolutely agree! It's not going to stop people making a complete mess of their lives but at least they have been warned...
There are always going to be the "it can't/won't happen/apply to me" brigade...

Fully agree, IT IS NOT WORTH TAKING THIS RISK AT ALL, but I think it has become a frequent practice only because there seem no rules / laws in place stopping this. Seeing most of the people doing it, I also took the chance and got stuck. Looks as if PRTD is my last hope now :(
