Throughout the citizenship application many of the questions ask to provide information from the last six years before the application or until the "the relevant period" being if you became a permanent resident within the past six years.

I became a PR in 2015 - does this mean that the information I provide is since my landing or six years before my landing?

My guess is that it is since I became PR - but I don't want to make a mistake.

The relevant period is 5 years back from the day you apply, regardless of when you became PR. The online residence calculator will tell you exactly what is your "relevant period" to use in the application.

I'm not sure if you are talking about the same thing - for example this is the question...

"You must include photocopies of the biographical pages of any passports or travel documents you held in the six (6) years immediately before the date of your application, or since you became a permanent resident if this happened less than six years ago ("the relevant period")

Nothing in the calculator refers to "relevant period"

I think you are looking at the old forms/instructions. Under the new instructions posted here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/CIT0002ETOC.asp#Step3

Step 3 – Gather your documents
Submit the following documents with your application:

  • original printout of your Online Physical Presence Calculation or form CIT 0407
  • photocopies of all valid and expired passports or travel documents you had in the past 5 years. If you don’t have these documents or there are gaps in time between travel documents, we will ask for an explanation.
The requirement to provide passports held in the past 6 years or since becoming PR was before C6 comes into force. After C6 law, you need to provide documents/information from the past 5 years, which is the relevant period.

Example you are eligible: 2012-Nov-15 to 2017-Nov-15. By calculator result.
then your RELEVENT period is above.

Then they will need only this above periods employment with no GAP date but anything before is IRRELEVANT and waste of your time and their time. But if you live Gap dates on relevant your app is returned thats how serious they are.

many people fill irrelevant period like fancy jobs they had at IBM and struggle with relevant period if they were unemployed like they will get ashamed to say unemployed and have their app returned.
