The Challenge of a Foreign Worker Finding Work

Hi all,

My fear would probably the same dreaded fear as any other foreign workers with a WHV in Canada, that is, finding suitable work (i.e. white collar). Let me begin to explain why it is difficult.

1. WHV = 2 years (e.g. Australia). Canadian employers may think 'Why hire them, their visa expires in 2 years'.
2. WHV = Non-Citizen. This means that it is unlikely, although not impossible, that you will find work in the government sector given that preference is given to Canadian citizens. You can see this when you do a government job search.

This is where I hit a mental block and a motivational block about arriving in Canada for a WHV. I have 3 degrees (Social Work/Human Resource Management/Accounting). It will be rather unfortunate if I cannot find work and become a waiter. Does anyone have any suggestions (e.g. employment sector) or even stories of anyone they know who've succeeded and what not? Thanks.
