Hi Experts,

i am a software engineer with 8 yrs of experience and was looking to start the processing for applying for permanent residence in canada. Luckily my employer offered to send me to canada on work permit as intra-company transfer for couple of years(min 1-2 yrs) and i am allowed to take my spouse as dependent. I have couple of below queries when i think of converting this to PR and intend to stay in canada permanently.

1. Can a work permit holder apply for permanent residence being in canada? if so, when and how?
2. When i was searching for the option to get PR, 1 of the video suggested to inform during immigration that i am interested to stay in canada permanently. In this case they will give the permanent residence card to the address i mention. Is this true? not sure if i have understood incorrect.
3. If my spouse come with me as a dependent of work permit holder, Note: currently he is working as assistant general manager for an MNC and have completed PMP & SIX sigma.
a. is he eligible to work in canada?
b. can he apply for permanent residence being in canada? if so when and how?
4. Can a PR holder eligible to continue studies? if so will we be eligible for full/part time course. We are just bit afraid as he is holding very reputed and critical role in his company and we are planning to move canada leaving his current job.

It would be great if someone can help me with above queries, which will help us in taking the decision.
Thanks in advance..

4. Is it easy to get a job for the role of project manager/assistant general manager

1. Yes. You'll have to read through Canada's immigration programs in detail to understand what it takes to apply. I would recommend you start with the Express Entry program: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/apply.asp There are a number of things you'll need to do before you can even apply like take an approved language test and have your education officially assessed. You should also be aware that although you will be working in Canada, for immigration purposes you are not regarded as having a job offer in Canada unless you have an approved LMIA (this is something your employer obtains). Again, you need to spend a few days if not weeks reading through the information on the CIC web site to understand Canada's immigration programs and how to apply. If you do not wish to do this research yourself, you'll need to hire an immigration laywer or consultant.
2. You've misunderstood. You aren't issued a PR card until after you have applied for permanent residency, been accepted for permanent residency and have officially become a PR of Canada. This happens at the very end of the process and is the easilest step. The hard step is qualifying and applying for PR.
3. You would include your spouse as a dependent in your own PR application and both of you will then get PR at the same time.
4. Yes.
5. Assume it will be hard without Canadian experience.

Thanks a lot scylla for quick reply.

Since i will get ICT work permit, i can take my husband as dependent.

1. is it enough if he holds the dependent visa alone, or does he need some special workpermit in order to work. If so what is the step for this. since he needs to find the job once he travel to canada.
2. Is it possible if an ICT dependent apply for PR being in canada instead of me? if so can my husband apply from canada itself?
3. is there any minimum salary cap for ICT work permits in canada?
4. if ICT visa gets expired an i have return back to apply new one, is there any blocking period that i need to serve in my home country before i apply for new work permit?
