I have been accepted to do my PhD at a DLI in Quebec, and I have only just been approved for my CAQ. My common-law partner of 13 years will be accompanying me to Canada (both Australian Citizens), where he hopes to be able to eventually work with an open-work permit for the duration of my course (4 years). We are currently in the process of doing our combined application online. Based on this we just need clarification on a few matters:
- Neither of us will require a seperate IRCC authorisation letter to enter the country, provided we have our letters of introduction? Will we both be provided with etas?
- As for my partner’s Statement of Purpose, specifying his intentions to accompany me and work to help support us whilst I am completing my degree - As we are completing this online, does it also need to be certified as per Australian law (by a Justice of the Peace, Notary etc)?
- Do ALL supporting documents need to be signed and certified by a Justice of the Peace/Notary (Bank statements, Copies of passports, birth certs, digital photographs etc?)
- IMPORTANT: For proof of financial capacity:
- Does this take into account only my bank account, my partners, or both?
- I have scholarship funding, as well as guaranteed paid work provided through my DLI - will this be taken into consideration in assessing my financial capacity? Or is it only based on bank accounts?
- Will my letter of admission (which specifies my guarantee of teaching hours) suffice as proof of work being required as part of my studies?
- My father has kindly offered to act as a guarantor in the case of financial emergency whilst my partner and I are in Canada. I assume he must write a letter to this effect? Will this be taken into consideration in assessing my financial security?
