Visitor visas typically allow you to visit Canada for six months at a time. However it's possible that the immigration officer you encounter when you enter Canada may only grant you a shorter visit (i.e. less than six months). If you wish to stay in Canada longer than your authorized visit, then you can apply for an extension from within Canada before your visit expires. There is never a guarantee the extension request will be approved.
