Hi all,

I am a temporary foreign worker under the young professional IEC program and have a employer-specific work visa. I was unfortunately laid off due to COVID and have found a new employer.
I initially sent IRCC a request to change my employer via their web form (This is the process they lay out for IEC employer change) a month ago and received no response. I sent them 2 subsequent messages both two and one week ago and also have yet to receive a response.
When calling them and holding for 2 hours to speak to an agent, they can only confirm they received the request but cannot give any indication on how long it will take due to covid.

Wondering if anyone has experience dealing with the IRCC. It seems like a black box to me where they are unresponsive, I'm left in the dark and they have basically no accountability. Wondering if I need to go home - which is a shame since I should be able to work here.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Everything is super slow right now so very hard to guess processing times. Lots of people waiting on work permits, family reunification applications, etc. Calling the IRCC help desk and submitting messages won't speed up processing processing of your application. The IRCC help desk staff aren't case officers and can generally only provide high level info.

I would recommend you check out the bulletin before and new temporary rules that were introduced due to COVID-19 with regards to changing employers. I do not know if this applies to your situation since you are on an IEC (although this bulletin refers to the IMP). May be worthwhile to get an opinion on this from an immigration lawyer.
