I’m a Canadian citizen engaged to a Dominican I used to live in the DR but was forced back to Canada due to family issues. We want to spend Christmas together and have some of his family come up from the states as I can’t take time of work, I have a work letter as prove of income do I need to show a bank statement as well if I’m paying for his trip? We plan on getting married next year, but we would like to get married here in bc as it’s an easier process. We are planning on submitting his Sponsorship application before the end of the year as an Outland application. He will leave at the end of his stay as he’s an English teacher and is expected to return to work after the Christmas break. My question is.

what should I include in the invitation letter?
Do I need a bank statement or is a letter from my job and paystubs enough as I have too jobs?

Include as much as you can that wjll tie him back to the dominican. A house, bank accounts, letter of employment advising that he has to return to work by a certain date, kids, cars, anything else.

Are you common law? Are you able to prove that you both lived in the same residence for a year? If not, you cannot apply until you are married

You can do that, but he will also need to prove the strong ties that will have him return to the DR, and his financial capacity to pay for his own trip.

The visa officer will be concerned that he will stay and apply for sponsorship inland.

Yes we can prove that we lived together for 3 years, we have a joint bank account, and car. The kids are U.S residents living with their mom. I’m hoping to put in his sponsorship application before his arrival into Canada we are just waiting for a few more documents.
