Hi all !

In order to prove French language skills for the Ontario French Speaking Skilled Worker Stream I understand we need to pass TEF Canada but will CIC accept my application when taking the TEF test rather than TEF Canada? The TEF Canada is not available in my country. Anyone who took the TEF instead of the TEF Canada for the same program and is already in a further stage?

Thanks for your feedback.

It should be OK as you've done the Reading, Listening, Written, and Oral tests.

I believe the difference between TEF and TEF Canada is that TEF has the Grammar test, which is not required for CIC, while TEF Canada has only the 4 required tests.

Thank you bellaluna, however I have been emailing back and forth with cci, the organisation behind TEF and they seem to say that I need to pass the TEF Canada test. Anyone else been in this situation before? Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Of course they want you to take TEF Canada separately, so you have to pay the exam fee again.

Also, someone replied to your query last month and said they took TEF for OINP and it's fine: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/oopnp-frenchspeaking-skilled-workers-stream-t308586.150.html

OK. So maybe they were probably playing it safe in their reply to you.

The TEF administrator (Alliance française) in my country refused to advise me at all and simply told me to make sure it's acceptable in CIC's rules. At that time, they also only administered TEF, but now I see they have since added TEF Canada and TEFaQ.

Here is another thread where someone took the 5 exams in TEF but only submitted the 4 required scores: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/delf-vs-tef-t28865.60.html

Thanks bellaluna. That's the main reason why I keep asking the question whether to pass TEF or TEF Canada: the Alliances don't seem to know themselves and in the end no one can give me a definite answer. CCI says TEF Canada only, here on the forum I gather that TEF should do. Had TEF Canada been available in my country, I would have passed it ages ago but it's not. In the meantime I have tried to email CIC Immigration directly but they have only ever gotten back to me with a standard email which does not even include a reply to my actual question. I have been looking at different threads but want to make sure they're recent as rules and regulations change all the time.

Hi guys,
just wanted to consult you in regards to TEF/TCF. in your opinion which one is better between TEF and TCF. I have done TEF couple of 2 times and I got 2C1 and 2B2 but unfortunately its not enough. As TEF is quite challenging, do you think TCF is more easier or the same and does it have an advantage compared to TEF?

looking forward to your earliest suggestions

thanks
