2009 will the 2nd tax year I am married to a non-resident. I use UFILE. We also have a child born on 2008 who is a natural Canadian citizen and resides here with me.

CHELLEY: Do not file as seperated. It will cause flags and problems with Child Tax and Universal Child Care benefits.

You will need to send that department a form declaring hubby's World Income in Canadian dollars. I am going to try to attach a link here, but in case it does not work, the form code from the one I used last year is CTB9 (08).

Also, there is a comment about tax credits posted by Toby. I caution each of you to heed the advice but be sure to do some research on your own personal particluars and situation to be certain you do not miss out on a personal tax credit. Lord knows this process is difficult financially. For example, some of us on here will be able to make a claim for an eligible dependent. Look at the following link for more information:

yes, not filing as separated.. my aunt is telling me to do that, but involuntary separation is not a separation...

i already sent off the world income form to get the child tax credit (i think that's what it was).. that was in November... i guess they'll want another one eh? sigh.... so much for efiling lol... will they write to request or call? I guess we can proactively print it off and ship it up...

he is the lower income spouse, but i am still the one who claims daycare and such, correct (since he cannot)..

blah, this is too much for my brain right now... bed is calling.... if i have any ephipanies tomorrow i'll report back... otherwise happy filing all! :)

just wanted to report back that my tax return filing was successful (ignoring quicktax errors eventually came to a screen where i was asked "was my spouse a non-resident in 2009" to which i clicked yes, there was a small adjustment to the total (like $20))... so you have it... you can file with quicktax

good luck!
