I posted this in the Canadian taxes and finance section but am re-posting here in case anyone is able to help out...

Hello,

My partner and I have been living together for 2 years now but he's been here in Canada on a visitor's visa as we are currently in the process of common-law sponsorship. So, I was wondering if I need to include him on my tax returns? If I do include him it asks me to provide his net income for 2011 which would be $0.00 because he is not allowed to work. There's also a question asking if he was a non-resident in 2011, and even if I select "yes" it still asks for his net income. There is quite a difference on the amount of money I would get back if he's included.

Has anyone come across this dilemma?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!!

If you are common law you are required to disclose it.

In addition, a tax resident should also report its world wide income and disclose its foreign assets.
