Hello everyone,

I am currently studying in semester 1 (january intake) of my 2nd course here in canada. The fees for my semester 2 is due in few days. However, I cannot afford it right now and the college has denied to give me any kind of extension. The only option I saw viable was to take a semester off from may until august and start semester 2 in September intake. But my program coordinator informed me that this course does not have a may intake, so there is no semester 2 in September. Therefore I’ll have to wait until january 2020 to continue this course.
I have yet to renew my student visa for this 2nd course (I only had a 1 year visa for my first course). But I don’t think I can possibly take 2 semesters off consecutively, considering that it will affect my PR application in the long run.

Please tell me what other options do I have ?

You will not be eligible for PGWP since your studies were not continuous. You only have 3 options.

1) Extend your study permit so it covers January 2020 if it's not covered already. You attend your 2nd semester in January 2020 but you will lose your PGWP since your studies were not continuous.
2) You find a way of arranging the money and pay your second semester, you will not need to take a break and you can get your PGWP at the end of your program.
3) You cut your loses and opt for another course in the future, it may be possible to carry credits from your old program to your new program.

PGWP gives you that time of having Canadian work experience without having to have an LMIA. Also, unlike a closed work permit you can still stay in Canada if you cannot find a job immediately after college.

I would suggest you borrow the amount you need to pay for the second semester.
