It is normal for foreign husbands/wives to want to visit their Canadian spouses. I mean after all, CIC wants to see marriages that are genuine, and they consider it a red flag if the Canadian spouse does not go visit his/her foreign spouse for a long time after the marriage. Yet, they make it hard for the opposite: for foreign spouses to visit their Canadian sponsors. What could possibly make a marriage more genuine than having a Canadian visit his/her spouse, and then the foreign spouse doing the same?

It's such a joke because the CIC recognizes dual intent (a person applying for PR who also wants to visit at the same time), but the funny part is, the usual reason the foreign spouse gets refused a visitor visa is because, get this........

.... because he/she is married to you and doesn't think he/she will leave! haha

I don't see why any foreign spouse, even if he/she is marrying primarily for status, would risk jeopardizing their PR application by deliberately overstaying their visitor visa anyway.

Hi mikeymyke and you are being kind to CIC in your post. The visitor visa or TRV (as they are also known) process, is the most crazy-making, infuriating, blatant money grab EVER!! It makes no sense whatsoever as you have noted and it is torturous for families.

My husband and I applied 4 times over a 6 year period (4 refusals) and no matter how much info. we submitted, or added, each time we were given the same useless reasons for refusal. Babies are being born without both parents allowed to be present, loved ones are getting sick and dying, weddings and other normal events when you so badly want your spouse/partner's support and presence!!

This system treats people worse than prisoners all because of a few bad apples. That is the gov't excuse, that they are trying to "protect" Canadians from marriage fraud. Grrrrrr........can you tell I am feeling bitter? :'(

My final rant of the day. I think. Have you been refused as well? Most folks going through the Port of Spain (my VO) and Kingston JA offices get refused. Now I am going to calm down and go pray . Blessings

It's like that anywhere. In fact Canada is easy compared to a lot of other countries. It is what it is unfortunately. I can't get my man to Denmark where I was born and raised because the immigration system there is strict beyond compare.

I agree that Canada is "easy" compared to other countries. Canada takes in a LOT of people in spite of a 7.2% unemployment rate. If you open the floodgates too much, the country's quality of living would take a huge hit, which is the whole reason people want to immigrate to Canada in the first place.
However, I do agree with OP's opinion on travel visas for husbands and wives. How do some rich guys who marry mail-order trophy brides they only met once somehow manage to get their spouse into Canada? Remember the "stripper visa" scandal a few years back? The inconsistency is ridiculous. It boggles the mind at how obviously legitimate spouses often have to wait years before they are allowed in.
