Hey guys my parents supervisa got approved. However the duration of the visa is a concern. The expiry date is 04/23/2023 and their passports are valid until 07/22/2024, their biometrics are also valid until dec 2024.

1) does anyone know why they visa office would have issued the visa for a shorter duration that the passports? I just fail to find the rationale.

2) can they re-apply for a new supervisa while they are in Canada after the 2023 expiry date?

1. Unfortunately, you don't have to find a rationale for this. The visa officer does, and a shorter visa than maximum validity is often a balance between the visa officer's concerns that your parents may overstay and the desire to issue them a visa. Your parents may not have had a strong profile.

2. You can try. I would recommend applying 2-4 months before the expiry of the visa.

Thanks for your reply khp

I have another question that I’m slightly worried about.

I advised my parents to carry their insurance policy with them at the airport in case the officer at the Canadian airport wants to check. The arrival date on the policy has to coincide with the date they arrive in Canada right? What if their flight gets delayed and then the policy is already in effect by the time they arrive. Now they will be covered for less than 365 days at this point, would this cause them an issue at the border? I hope my question makes sense.

You can’t apply for a new supervisa in Canada you can only apply to extend a stay under the current supervisa. There is no guarantee that your parents will be able to stay past the 2 year period. They remain visitors and are expected to return to their home countries at a certain point.
