Dear all,

I'm a PR and I'm about to apply for a VISA for my dad. He will just visit shortly (1 week or 2), and I don't think it's economical to buy a one-year insurance. Do you guys think I can apply for a TRV instead?

Thank you for your help!

I am interested to know this as well. Thanks.

Of course.

Super Visa allows for 2 year stays without the need to renew or extend one's status.

TRV allows for 6 month stays, so a TRV for a 1-2 week stay is fine.

Insurance companies may force you to buy 1 year of insurance, but most of them will allow you to have a refund of any unused months that your parent is not in Canada.

Also, it's not a good idea to omit insurance, since it's extremely expensive to get medical treatment as a foreigner with no insurance.

Thank you! My dad has travelling insurance from the home country.
