I’m confused about the situation regarding my parents’ eligibility for a 5-year stay in Canada. Back to the tike when they entered Canada, the critical date was July 4, 2022—if they entered after that date, they could stay for five years, provided there was no specific marking by the border officer. However, the IRCC website has now updated the critical date to June 22, 2023. According to this new rule, entering Canada before June 22, 2023, only qualifies them for a 2-year stay. If it is the new rule, they have been staying for more than two years. It will be a problem. I called IRCC and got two different interpretations for this situation. It is so confusing.
