Hi guys,

I'm currently in Canada with my wife on a passport stamp (I'm from a visa exempt country).

My stamp expires in a little over a month, and we're not sure that's enough time to finish our PR app. I plan to apply for an extension of my visitor status, which I understand currently takes about 4 months to process and puts me on implied status once my stamp expires.

So, if I apply for PR while on the implied status from my extension application, does the implied status then carry over for my PR application? And does that implied status stay regardless of the result of my extension application?

Thanks everyone!

Submitting a PR app does not give you implied status.

Applying to extend your visitor record/permit before your your current one expires does until they make the decision on the visitor record/permit.

Thanks for your reply. Would you say that the best thing to do is to pay PR app fees then submit application for extension, giving the PR receipt as evidence?

What happens if I'm applying in-Canada but run out of status while my PR application is being processed?

Always try to maintain your status by extending your visitor status as required.

Yes i would definitely pay your PR application fees now and show this as proof that you will be applying for PR. Include that proof in your application to extend your visitor status.
