Hello everyone,

I’m a minor dependent currently finishing grade 8 in a public school in Canada. My study permit is up for extension along with my mom’s, who has a multi-year permit extension planned.

I have some concerns and would appreciate advice from those with experience or knowledge:

  1. My current LOA covers only the 2024/25 school year (ending June 2025). Since I’m moving to grade 9 next year (a new school year and new school), IRCC may ask for a new LOA or enrollment confirmation for 2025/26.
  2. If I don’t provide a new LOA, is there a high chance IRCC will limit my permit extension only up to June 2025 instead of matching my mom’s multi-year permit?
  3. How often do minors get refused or have their permit shortened just because of an expired or missing LOA, especially when the parent’s permit is approved?
  4. My younger sisters are staying in the same K-12 school with LOAs only for 2024/25. Is it very likely their permits will be extended to match my mom’s permit length without new LOAs?
  5. If my mom adds my new LOA but not my sisters’, does that create any risk for their extensions?
  6. What is the best way to submit updated LOAs or enrollment confirmation to IRCC (my email, my mom’s, or a representative’s)?
