Hi everyone,

I started studying at an ESL institute in August. Now, I registered at a university (which starts in January) and applied for a study permit and I'm waiting for it. I don't know how long it takes for them to issue it, so my question is :

Considering that I started my ESL courses in August , I can study for 6 months without any study permit (which means until February 2016). Is that true ?

I applied for my study permit in October and if it takes later than January to get it, I don't want to miss the University, so I'm thinking of starting my studies with my work permit so I can buy some time until I get my study permit.

thanks,

No - you certainly can't do that.

You can study without a study permit if the total duration of your program is six months or less.

You CANNOT start your university studies until your study permit has been approved since the total duration of these studies will be more than six months. If you start your university studies without an approved study permit, you'll be studying illegally which will make you removable from Canada.
