can anyone help out? would my daughter have to apply for a study visa before moving to canada? or could she travel out to canada for 6months and apply whilst there? she would have a place to live when she gets there? many thanks leanne x

More information please.

Where is she from, age, etc?

hello she is 16 years old and a British citizen, living in England but she would have a place to live in canada should she be able to study there many thanks

She will need a study permit, she will not require a visa to visit (TRV).

The CIC Web site states "You must submit your application to the visa office that is responsible for the country or region where you live".

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study.asp

The current processing time for study visa's is 5 months (UK).
While I believe that is is possible for her to travel to Canada as a visitor and apply to the UK for a study permit, I would suggest that she applies before travelling.
In fact the CIC website says the same :)

Have you checked the CIC site regarding study permit requirements?

thank you, yes i did look at the website and got really confused but came to pretty much the same thing. I was just wondering if she could go before as applying for a college in canada will be hard now as they have closed for the term. from what i understand she has to be accepted into a college in canada before applying for a study permit. i have e-mailed a college that is close to where she will be living and has the course she wants to take. just to get a rough idea of tuition fees or scholarships if she can get one. thank you for your reply
