Hi! I'm hoping someone here can help give me some guidance:

I am a US citizen currently living overseas (europe) finishing a MS degree. I've been accepted to a very nice PhD program in Canada complete with financial backing, etc. I've just learned that Canada is very strict when it comes to background checks. I received a DUI charge, reduced to a reckless driving in 2010. I've traveled to and lived in over 50 different countries since without issue. Would this be a problem for getting a study visa? The online application says to submit a police record along with the application, which I will do. I am scheduled to start school in January 2017. Does anyone have any experience with this? Am I worrying for nothing or should I make plans to go elsewhere? :O It's been really difficult to find information about this online :(

You should be fine since it was reduced to reckless driving. I would submit the study permit application ASAP since there may be delays in processing your application due to the charge.
