hey guys -

I am international student @UofT - and I am kind of worried about my study permit as I am taking the fall semester off to complete immigration requirements in the United States, as well as for personal and medical reasons. I was hoping to travel to Canada as soon as I get authorization from immigration authorities here in the US (hopefully by october), but I am worried my study permit wouldn't be valid, as I am not going to be studying this term. It is however very important for me to come back to Canada as soon as I can, as I have many things to important attend to (I own an appartment in toronto), and I am really stressing about whether I would be allowed in the country or not. What should I do in my circumstances?

Also, my study permit expires in the summer of 2019.

If you stop studying for more than 90 days, you study permit is automatically canceled. If taking the fall semester off is an unscheduled break in your program, then you'll likely need to apply for a new study permit before resuming your studies in Canada in January. Make sure you don't work in Canada until you begin your studies again.
