Hello everyone!

I am a Serbian international student who has been accepted into Ryerson University in Toronto. I have also won the largest scholarship available, the Presidents International Entrance Scholarship.

I am applying for a study permit this late because I didn't know if I had won the scholarship, and that was necessary for me to know before I could start applying. I needed the scholarship to be able to finance my first year of studies and could not have started my study permit application process earlier. My first application for the study permit was rejected.

In my application, I displayed only the personal funds used to cover the tuition fees, and not room and board and other, as those were not required fields, even though I have funds to cover those as well.

Another matter which I think contributed to my application being refused is the fact that I did not attach my Serbian passport. I understood that only the passport I will be travelling with (Israeli) is necessary. I expected the Canadian embassy to contact me in case any further documents or details are needed. I turned out to be wrong as they refused my application straight away.

Another mistake I made was that I stated that I was employed in a summer camp where I am actually only a member.

I will explain these mistakes in my letter of explanation. I will also write an email to the Canadian embassy in Vienna and try to make a phone call, as well.

My question is, is there a phone number of the embassy that I could call from Serbia or other means of contacting someone who could advise me on reapplying for a study permit(I'm using Skype so I'm able to make international calls)? The government of Canada website offers only this number: 1-888-242-2100, which I cannot reach from outside Canada.

Does anyone else have experience with study permits being refused? Is there anything else I should keep in mind when re-applying? Any help is appreciated!

I'm suprised you were given the largest scholarship available given the fact that you're ommitting infomation and making mistakes in your study permit application.

The difference was that the University provided help, contact and feedback during applying. The embassy rejected my application without warning. I admit, it is my fault not predicting that would happen, as the embassy has a much larger pool of applicants and doesn't have time to cater to everyone's needs.
