Hey All,

I am a newbie here and wanted to clarify some issues related to the procedures of getting SP. I have an offer from URegina with a full-year tuition coverage. The duration of the program is 2 years. I am planning to take my wife and a soon to be a year old son.

  • How much Proof of Funds should I show when applying for SP?
  • When should I start the application process?
  • After getting the permit, can I leave my family in my home country for 2-3 months?
  • Can my wife get a Work Permit? If yes, when and where does she get it?

    I really appreciate any input.
    Thank you.

Greetings.

How much Proof of Funds should I show when applying for SP?

1 yr tuition fee + $10,000 + $4000 (wife) + $3000 (child) = 1 year tuition + $17,000 (whole family)

When should I start the application process?

As early as possible because depending on the processing time you might not make it in time.
So if the class starts in September 2017 you should be gathering the documents now.

After getting the permit, can I leave my family in my home country for 2-3 months?

I do not understand this question. If you have all have a status in Canada after you land and you want them to return in your home country for 2-3 months then its okay.

Can my wife get a Work Permit? If yes, when and where does she get it?

Pursuant to Subsection 207(b) Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, A work permit may be issued under section 200 to a foreign national in Canada who (b) is a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class set out in Division 2 of part 7; means that you wife will receive an open work permit while you study in Canada.
She can get it after you file for an application to CPC Vegreville.

P.S if the child is born inside Canada he will be Canadian by "right of soil"

+1 kapatid. Thank you very much.

I'd like to clarify some issues:

1. According to your comment, I should not take into account the fact that I have funding from the Uni? Also, even though the duration of the course is 2 years, is it fine to show proof of funds only for the first year?

2. Regarding the Work Permit, is this something that I will do while applying or after she lands in Canada?

Take it into consideration. It is still the fund you will use.
Even for a 2 years course or a 4 years course they will only going to ask for 1 year fund
Therefore;
1yr tuition + $17,000 - 1yr tuition = Total funds you need to have
All in all, what you need to show is $17,000 + (the receipt from school or evidence of that 1 year scholarship)

Open work permit can only be issued inside Canada, after she lands

I think I'll be able to show 20-25k CAD and the letter from the Uni.

Can you please tell if I can include my wife and son in my application? Or should they apply separately? What type of visa do they apply for? Is it TRV?

How long will be the duration of the Study Permit? And how soon will my wife has to renew her Work Permit?

Yes you can include your wife and son together with you.
Sometimes they do it once they land and already inside Canada.
Chance of refusal are a bit high while doing it together because it weakens your family ties in the country, however once inside you can always get your family.
They will apply for TRV.
Study permit will be given at the port of entry and the duration will probably be until the end of your class.
Work permit validity will probably expire the same time your student permit expires.
