Hi! I've received an approval on my study permit. Due to the situations I'm in, I will have to claim asylum at the airport once I get to Canada. But my study permit will only be given to me at the airport. Will I still get this permit after I claim asylum? Or will I have to apply for a new one?

Many Thanks!

I would think it unlikely they will process a study permit if you claim asylum at the same time.

Hi! Sorry, my wording was unclear. I just learned that even though I received an approval for my study permit, I will only receive it once I arrive at the airport. I'm worried that I won't be given the permit anymore after my asylum claim. Does anyone has any information regarding this?

Thank you!
This is how it works, when you arrive you'll be first attended by CBSA and he will direct you to the Immigration to issue you your SP if you meet border entry requirement. If you declare that you are claiming refugee, then that another/different process to follow, they wont direct you to Immigration to have your study permit printed, you are considered a refugee claimant....you will have to wait for eligibility interview and request SP or WP...

Thank You! So, if I make my claim then my study permit won't be given to me anymore and I'll have to apply for a new one?

Because you declare you are asylum seeker at point of entry, they’ll take you to secondary examination for the interview and refer you to IRB…
