Study Permit Extension validity

Hello Everybody. I want to know whether CIC will issue me a study permit extension if the the duration of my course exceeds the validity period on my passport. Will the study permit extension be valid up to the validity date on my passport or not? If anyone had been in a similar situation, please share your experience and anyone else who has knowledge about study permit extensions also please share your information and opinions on this matter.
