Hello everybody,

I'm finishing my Master program in January 2010, and my study permit is up until March 2010. I'm thinking about applying to PhD program for Autumn 2010, although have the following problem: I most likely will not be able to receive offer letter for PhD program before expiration of my current study permit (March 2010). Is there any way to extend it before hand for about 3-4 months?

Thank you in advance - I would really appreciate any help

Hi,

CIC does not disqualify students from applying for a temporary resident visa (as visitor, and not student anymore) after a program of study has been completed. Just make sure you can show strong reasons why you need to stay on. I would like to think that it is a valid reason for you to tell CIC that you will be waiting for acceptance into a new PHD program. Just make sure your documentation is complete and includes proof of finances during your extended stay as visitor, then likely, as student.

Good luck.
